Considering photovoltaics and energy procurement together
Self-consumption, residual electricity and surplus belong together
Use PV electricity yourself, feed surpluses into the grid, and draw the remaining demand from the grid. Without storage, directly used PV electricity reduces grid import during periods when generation and consumption coincide. The remaining electricity contract remains part of the analysis. Schematic energy flows; no statement regarding quantities, economic viability, or self-sufficiency. Schematic representation; no customer data.
A photovoltaic system can cover part of the local electricity demand. How much self-consumption is possible depends on generation, load profile, and, if applicable, a storage system. Complete independence from the grid is not automatically achieved.
A business’s remaining grid electricity demand is still part of procurement. Load-profile data helps compare generation and demand over time. The PV glossary explains the basic terms.
